A LITTLE ABOUT ME

My Name is Paul Francis McGugan I avoid the surname in my work not because I am ashamed of it. Far from it.  Its just a mouth full when it comes to trying to pronounce or spell it. Hence Paul Francis Photography.

Brought up in an creative family on the West of Scotland I was surrounded by art, music and design. The eldest of three and ironically considering my now passion, probably the more logical of the eclectic bunch.  Offered an opportunity to go the very prestigious Glasgow College of Art after showing great promise in my artwork I opted for a life in computers and technology but only after a opportunity as an apprentice cabinet maker dissolved just as I left school to accept it.

My only really creative outlet in the many years that followed was to design and develop the occasional website which I always wanted to capture my own imagery for but didn't think I had the skill to do justice. So I used my technology skills and early software packages to manipulate others photography work to make images that I could be proud of for my clients. It has taken until my now, my more maturer years, to really focus on how to capture my own images but no longer for websites, it was just for prosperity. At least that's how it started.

No question it was infectious and after unwittingly being introduced to Beauty and Fashion Editorial Photography as an feasible outlet for my creativity after a year of landscape and street, I had found my niche. Or it found me and there is no looking back.

The goal is to become recognised and respected as a brand photographer in the beauty and fashion market and to shoot for large advertising campaigns for media distribution. Its a tall order but I generally do well with goals I set myself but I am also realistic. So its one step at a time.
